The 2016 Wrangler is going to get a diesel, which, if it's anything like the new diesel Grand Cherokee, it will get 24mpg average. It will retain it's 4x4, and it will still have a stick shift. 4x4 means it's either RWD or 4 wheel drive which is the best of both worlds! That's something I could get behind. I've always bought Subarus because AWD really is a wonderful thing up here in Wiscaaansin, but now I can man up and get an America mobile. I would probably need the Unlimited (4 door variety) because in the next few years there will probably be little people running around my house, and a Wrangler just makes sense with all of the crap that I love to use my wagon as an excuse to haul stuff around for (mountain bike, currently a wagon full of Milwaukee Tools, a dog, hockey bag & sticks, leaves and yard brush, large quantities of beer, etc.)

My old self would probably want to punch me in the face for even considering a Mopar product, but times are a-changing

You don't need four wheel drive in Wisconsin.

An unlimited diesel manual Wrangler sounds awesome. I would probably even consider one!

Any chance if you know if a manual option with said diesel? I'm torn between the new Colorado diesel, a Wrangler unlimited and the new WRX. Don't ask I have weird tastes. A wrangler diesel would tip the scales.

The Grand Cherokee uses an 8-speed transmission and aerodynamics to get 24mpg on the highway. The Wrangler has none of those. Good luck with the MPGs.

You do if you live in the woods.

(Big foot) or more properly for us in oppo

(Lead foot) because we all have a right heavy foot.

I drive to work in 26 miles of often unplowed country roads. I will take AWD or 4-wheel drive for $1000, Alex.

The Wrangler gets 18-19 now, so a diesel would likely be something better than that, but less than 24 like you said.

I can't see why they wouldn't offer a manual as that's often a feature a lot of wheelers want. That, coupled with 420lb-ft of torque? I can't see any real off-roader saying "no thanks I'll take my automatic I-6" over that combo. The outgoing RAM 1500 (I think) was the only RWD/4WD manual diesel car on the market, so that also leads me to believe that they would have 4x4 + diesel + manual.

YES!

The Wrangler gets more like 17 now. Maybe 19 on a downhill with a decent tailwind.

The Wrangler's engine in the Grand Cherokee gets 25mpg on the highway. Also, the new 2014 GC Diesel gets (supposedly) 30mpg on the highway, so I suppose 24mpg isn't out of the question for the Wrangler.

Have your heard something I haven't? I mean, its very likely it will get the diesel, but nothing other than rumors at this point. Also, be prepared to spend 40-50k for a diesel wrangler as pictured above. People don't seem to realize how pricey these things are getting.

well.....if jeep follows ram's philosophy with their 1500 eco diesel i wouldn't hold my breath on it being an option.

I know, it's staggering how expensive they are! At the $25k that I want to spend, I'll likely end up with a used one 4 years later with 100k miles on it

Wow I thought they got better. Looking on fuelly is spot on with 17mpg

Maybe I'll have to settle for a JK Unlimited Rubicon. The difference in price will buy me a lot of gas and will afford quite a few dollars in repair bills

Love for them to adapt the 2500 cummins 6 speed for this purpose.

Been my one complaint with my JK. No Diesel. But from what I've heard, no manual for the diesel variant (assuming it actually happens). That being said, with 4" of lift and 35" tires I still average about 16.5 mpg in my JK. Full stock I got 22 avg, maxed it at 25 on the highway.

"My old self would probably want to punch me in the face for even considering a Mopar product, but times are a-changing"

I've always seen Jeep as a pretty separate entity, or at least the Wrangler. Also, Wranglers are always Jalop (unless they've been ruined with rims or something).

yup, that's why I paid $5700 for my ride, the difference I paid over a Tacoma pays for a lot of gas.

The only reason I say it's extremely Jalop when you think about it, is because it's rarely brought up in discussions about what the most Jalop vehicle is. Yes, station wagons are awesome- I have one. But this is the oft-overlooked choice

True. The Cherokee gets more Jalop love around here than the Wrangler.

I have a similar drive to college and RWD works fine for me. Granted it is a mostly flat drive.

And that only goes down once you lift it and put on bigger tires. But hey, it's a Jeep, it's worth the gas money. Going off road is too much fun not to do.
